Naugatuck Glass is a world leader in the production of thin mirror components. The process begins with the production of mirrored glass on our state-of-the-art silvering conveyor. This equipment was specially designed to process a range of glass thickness from .038" to .250". The paint backing on our mirrors is 100% lead-free, and is available in a choice of 3 colors, gray, butterscotch or white. Naugatuck Glass leads the industry in the use of lead-free mirror-back coatings. Our mirror products comply with the CONEG Source Reduction Legislation for packaging materials and all U.S.E.P.A. heavy metal and hazardous waste regulations.

Custom mirror components of virtually any size and shape are produced on high volume flow lines incorporating computerized scribing and seaming (if required) equipment. These lines produce your parts in ready-to-ship palletized boxes or crates from raw mirror stock, and can be changed to produce a new part in minutes.

For our customers, this means short lead times on production orders, quick response to order changes, and next-day delivery on most sample requests.

Production personnel at Naugatuck Glass fabricate mirror components of unmatched cleanliness and edge quality. We adhere to close size tolerances with a maximum allowable chip size of .032".

  • Auto Vanity Mirrors - Naugatuck Glass manufactures commercial second surface mirrors that are used in automotive applications, specifically, mirrors that will be asembled into sun visors.  These mirrors can be fabricated with or without adhesive tape or foam backing; this backing provides a shatter proof characteristic to the mirror's performance.  We can provide small (up to 500) or large (100K+) volumes and release shipments to meet all production schedules.  Our mirrors can be found in most models of automobiles; and these mirrors will meet all of the demanding criteria as required by the world's best known automobile manufacturers.
  • Front Surface Aluminum
  • Chrome Coated Mirror / Transparent - Naugatuck Glass can manufacture mirrors that will use a chrome coating - this mirror coating will provide excellent reflective characteristics, as well as hold up to harsh environmental (high salt) conditions.  These chrome mirrors are typicallyused in automotive and dental applications, and can be made to a variety of shapes and configurations.                     Coated Mirror Glass Specifications:  The materials defined by these specifications are float glass mirrors.  The reflective surface is produced by the vacuum deposition of chromium onto the "first surface" of the glass.
    • Requirements:  The reflective surface must conform to the following requirements:
    •  1.  The glass may contain fine scattered seeds (bubbles) less than .016" diameter.  The chromium coating shall be free of noticeable pin holes which affect the appearance or optical properties of the mirror per PQES-SK9.
    •  2.  Reflectance:  Not less than 50% of the light incident on the surface - SAE J964.
    •  3.  Transmittance:  Not to exceed 4% measured at normal incident to the surface.  (International commission on Illumination Illuminate "A")
    •  4.  Distortion: Flat - Must conform to 3% distortion requirements per Ford test method FLTMBO-120-03 (Ford Only)..  Visual inspect with glass 36 in. from eyes and view image of grid board placed 15 feet away from glass  No blurring, fuzzines, or bending of lines permissible (Chrysler and General Motors Only).  Distortion: Convex - no waviness of lines allowed when viewing glass in dirtortion box as outlined in FMVSS III.
    •  5.  Cycle Test:  Four hours in an overn 160° F ± 10° F -  Then immediately in a cold box -18°F ± 10°F for four hours.  Then immediately placed in a vertical position in a humidity chamber (100% relative humidity) at a temperature of 100°F ± 2°F for 16 hours.  After four cycles there shall be no discoloration loss of reflectivity in excess of 1% or evidence of poor adhesion of the reflective film to the glass.
    •  6.  Salt Spray:  250 Hours, in accordance with ASTM B-117.  No discoloration loss of reflectivity in excess of 100%, or evidence of poor adhesion of the reflective film to the glass.
    •  7.  Humidity Resistance:  500 Hours 100% (relative humidity) - 100°F - No noticeble deterioration.
    •  8.  High Temperature:  Seven days @ 200°F - No noticeble deterioration.
    •  9.  Cold:  Seven days @ -20°F - No noticeble deterioration.
    •  10.  Corrodkote:  20 Hours in non-concensing humidity cabinet, ASTM B380-65.  No loss of reflectivity in excess of 1 %.  No discoloration or evidence of poor adhesion.
    •  11.  Abrasion:  1,000 Cycles using a "Tabor" abraser .250" diameter pencil eraser under one kilogram (2.2 pound) load.  Slight scratches due to abrasive particles in the rubber eraser shall be ignored.  No loss of adhesion and no loss  of reflectivity in excess of 1%.
    •  12.  Adhesion Hot and Cold:  Five seconds in 212°F water, five seconds in ice water.  Total twenty-five cycles.  No los of adhesion in excess of 1%.
    •  13.  Adhesion Tape:  Scotch tape #710 3/4" X 3" stripped rapidly after ten seconds.  No loss of adhesion in excess of 1%.  Mirror samples after subjected to tests (humidity, hot and cold temperature (7,8,9), must pass tape adhesion test).
    •  14.  Radius of Curvature"  To determine the average radius of curvature of a convex mirror, use a 3 point linear radius of curvature gage (as specified in FMVSS III).
  • Magnifying Mirrors - Naugatuck Glass can furnish our cosmetic industry customers with mirrors that will magnify an image up to three times its normal size.  These mirrors are available in a variety of cnofigurations, from round to rectilinear to odd shaped.  We can supply large or small quantities as required by the individual customer.
  • Copper Free Mirror - Naugatuck Glass can supply a copper free version of our second surface mirror product, providing an advantage to the end user where corrosion resistance is a key requirement in the mirror's use.  Our copper free process incorporates a paint system that uses 100% lead-free or a low lead two coat paint with a copperless chemistry.  The mirrors offer excellent resistance to humidity and corrosion, including CASS and salt spray testing requirements.  Ideal for exterior and bathroom applications.
